Gluten free sourdough recipes

Gluten free sourdough recipes are some of my favourite recipes to develop. They’re slower and more peaceful, and it’s incredibly satisfying to make a loaf entirely from scratch. Today I wanted to round up all the gluten free sourdough recipes on my website and in my cookbook. Happy baking!

Gluten free sourdough recipes

These gluten free sourdough recipes are all nut free and xanthan gum free. The breads are mostly vegan, with the exception of a few recipes that contain butter or cheese.

Obviously, you’ll need an active gluten free sourdough starter before you begin. If you don’t have one yet, see my guide to gluten free sourdough starter here. It provides extensive notes and troubleshooting to get you on your way.

If you’d prefer not to make a gluten free sourdough starter, I have plenty of gluten free bread recipes on my site that aren’t sourdough.

Gluten free sourdough bread

This boule was the first gluten free sourdough recipe I posted on my website, and it is still one of my favourites. It’s a simple bread that can be adapted based on the ingredients you have on hand. The loaf is also vegan and nut free.

‘White bread’ gluten free sourdough loaf

For a more ‘white bread’ experience, try my gluten free white bread sourdough. It is still vegan but uses a higher proportion of starches to achieve that ‘white bread’ taste and texture.

Gluten free sourdough without rice flour

A lot of my recipes use rice flour, but I know some people are unable to tolerate it. As such, I wanted to develop a gluten free vegan loaf that would suit a rice free diet. This loaf has a lovely nutty flavour yet retains a light crumb.

Seeded gluten free sourdough

This gluten free seeded sourdough is a delicious and wholesome boule. The seeds make for a lovely texture and they toast up nicely, too. The loaf is vegan and xanthan gum free.

Gluten free sourdough pizza bases

There had to be a gluten free sourdough pizza recipe, right? This version is vegan, xanthan gum free and nut free. It can sit in the fridge all weekend, resulting in pizza for dinner every night. The pizza is a match made in heaven with my low FODMAP pizza sauce.

100% buckwheat flour sourdough loaf

A beautiful 100% buckwheat flour sourdough bread from my buckwheat flour e-book. It’s vegan, xanthan gum free and starch free.

Starch free sourdough pizza bases

If you want a sourdough pizza but not the starch content, try these starch free pizza bases from my cookbook, Intolerance Friendly Kitchen. They’re xanthan gum free and vegan, using only wholegrain flours to achieve a chewy yet light pizza dough.

Gluten free sourdough brownie cookies

We love a brownie cookie around these parts, so a gluten free sourdough version was always on the cards. These brownie cookies are delicious and complex with a subtle tang thanks to the sourdough starter. 10/10 would recommend.

Vegan, gluten free sourdough cinnamon rolls

There’s a whole chapter in Intolerance Friendly Kitchen on gluten free sourdough, so permit me a few entries here. These gluten free sourdough cinnamon rolls are egg free and vegan with the right icing. They’re fluffy and soft yet tangy and complex from the sourdough. A delicious adult treat.

While we’re on the topic of sweet things, how about this gluten free sourdough banana bread? It’s a great way to use up some starter and makes for a deliciously complex loaf of banana bread.

Olive and rosemary gluten free sourdough

As you’re about to see, I love a sourdough loaf with added flavours. Rosemary and olive are a match made in heaven in this gluten free sourdough made from easy to find flours. This is a recipe in my cookbook, Intolerance Friendly Kitchen.

Jalapenõ and cheddar gluten free sourdough

Another flavour combination that is out of this world? Jalapenõ and cheddar. There aren’t many better things than slicing into a pocket of melty cheese in your sourdough, let me tell you. This is a recipe from my cookbook, Intolerance Friendly Kitchen.

Gluten free sourdough Vegemite scrolls

For Australian eyes only: gluten free sourdough Vegemite Scrolls. They’re easy to make and can also be made vegan with the right vegan cheese. This recipe is from my cookbook, Intolerance Friendly Kitchen.

Gluten free sourdough flatbreads

Sorry, yes! Another recipe from Intolerance Friendly Kitchen, these sourdough flatbreads have been designed to use any number of different gluten free flours. I highly recommend serving them with my garlic infused ghee.

Gluten free sourdough brownies

I am a brownie aficionado, and I think these gluten free sourdough brownies take the cake. They’re deeply complex in delicious chocolate flavour. I took them to a brownie tasting and we unanimously agreed that they were the winning brownie, so what more endorsement do you need?

Gluten free sourdough croissants

Last but definitely not least, my gluten free sourdough croissant recipe from Intolerance Friendly Kitchen. These croissants are gluten free, xanthan gum free and can even be made vegan with a good quality vegan stick butter. They’re a labour of love, but 120% worth it.
