Best coffee in Byron Bay

I have recently returned from a roadtrip through Byron Bay, Brisbane and Noosa. Given that I can barely make it out the door without downing an espresso, it was inevitable that I search out good coffee on the trip. To share the love, I decided to write up my guide to the best coffee in Byron Bay.

Best coffee in Byron Bay

This list is by no means exhaustive, but it is the coffee I loved along with the places I researched but didn’t get a chance to visit. I adore Byron and I hope to be back ASAP to sample more coffees and hone in my list even further.

The list was brought together through a variety of sources – Reddit, TikTok, the internet in general and my past experiences in Byron. If I have left off a favourite of yours, let me know and I will be sure to test it in the future.

Best Coffee in Byron Bay town

Bayleaf Cafe

A classic for a reason, Bayleaf makes a delicious brunch and a delicious coffee. I had one of the best espressos I had in Byron at Bayleaf, so I can wholeheartedly recommend it. At the time of writing, Bayleaf Cafe is open from 7am-1pm Monday to Friday and 7am-2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday Sustainable Bakery

This gorgeous little bakery serves coffee at the Johnston Street venue (and perhaps the others, although I can’t find much information online). I had a nice espresso and the deck is a great place to sit and people watch. At the time of writing, Sunday Sustainable Bakery is open from 6am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 6am-4pm Sunday. Whether this includes coffee, I can’t be certain.

Wide Open Road

A Brunny classic that used to be my go-to for coffee when I worked in Barkly Square lol, Wide Open Road is now in Byron Bay. I didn’t visit because I can attest to the quality in Brunswick, so I have to assume it is equally as good in Byron. At the time of writing, Wide Open Road is open from 7am-2.30pm on weekdays and 7am-3pm on weekends.

Barefoot Brew Room

I walked past the street that Barefoot Brew Room is on many times while I was in Byron, but somehow I missed it! A specialty coffee venue that has loads of great reviews, this is on my list for next time. At the time of writing, Google says that Barefoot Brew Room is open from 6am-12.30pm every day. That said, their Instagram says their winter hours are 7am-12.30pm on weekends, so maybe check online before you visit if you are an early bird.

Baloney’s Deli

A newer little deli on the edge of town, we stopped in for a quick coffee. At the moment, they do $2 standing espressos (Italian style) which I thought was very cool. The sandwiches also look delicious if you’re not gluten free like me. At the time of writing, Baloney’s Deli is open from 8am-2.30pm Tuesday to Sunday.

Top Shop

A Byron Bay classic located in a gorgeous little spot on the hill, Top Shop makes a good coffee. It’s also just a lovely place to sit and services this part of Byron nicely. At the time of writing, Top Shop is open from 6.30am-3pm every day.

Folk

I didn’t manage to get to Folk on my most recent trip (we couldn’t get a car park) but it was one of my favourite spots the last time I was in Byron. Delicious food, delicious drinks and a gorgeous little spot to sit are my memories of the place. At the time of writing, Folk is open from 7.30am-2.30pm every day.

Allpress Byron Bay, Arts and Industry Estate

I didn’t go to the Allpress in Byron because we have one in Melbourne, but it looked like a very cute little spot in the Industrial Estate. It seems to be an espresso bar only, so no brunch on the menu here. At the time of writing, Allpress Byron Bay is open from 7am-2pm Monday to Friday.

Happy Days Coffee, Arts and Industry Estate

Located in the old Industrial Estate, Happy Days is in a cute little block around the back of Beam, whose coffee they use (they might even be the same owners). There are a new nice little spots to sit and the coffee was lovely. The brunch also looks delicious and apparently the bread is made in-house. At the time of writing, Happy Days is open from 6.30am-2pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am-12pm on Saturday and 8am-12pm on Sunday.

Otherside Cafe, Arts and Industry Estate

This place looks extremely cute and seems to have the coffee to match. I am annoyed I didn’t discover it before my trip, but hopefully you can test it out for me. At the time of writing, Otherside Cafe is open from 6.30am-2pm weekdays, 7.30am-12pm Saturdays and closed on Sunday.

Bun Coffee, Arts and Industry Estate

Another spot I didn’t get the chance to visit, Bun Coffee looks like it absolutely delivers the goods. They roast their own beans and seem to have a spot in Ballina as well as the Byron Industrial estate. At the time of writing, Bun Coffee in Byron is open from 5.45am-3pm Monday to Friday and 6.30am-11am on Saturday.

Woods, Bangalow

Okay, so Bangalow isn’t Byron. However, it is absolutely worth the drive and the best espresso I had in the Byron area. Folk and Woods used to be sister sites, as far as I understand, but it seems like they may have split? Either way, it was absolutely delicious coffee and brunch with way more seating than they had last time I visited. At the time of writing, Woods Bangalow is open 7.30am-2pm every day.
